OUR LITTLE SMALL WORLDS!

By Atif Shamim Syed

The following is neither a story nor a funny mail. It happens that whenever I feel sad or lonely, I start writing. Sometimes it becomes a story, sometimes just plain rubbish. I have never considered myself a writer. Unlike real writers, I am completely disorgazied and undisciplined. ( I cannot write correct spelling and my punctuation sucks.) Sometimes I think that its actually the story that writes itself through me. Only Allah knows!

I am a very happy man and I enjoy my life immensely. But recently two things happened that have changed my perception of things: I met the most beautiful woman on this planet and I met an old friend.

My very first job was in NIT (National Investment Trust). Kashif Ameer Ali was a colleague there. In many ways he is the one who taught me practical application of knowledge and like almost all honest and hardworking men he was left behind ( he is still working as a clerk in NIT).  When we met accidentally on I.I. chundrigar road, he smiled at me and said how small our world was!

He was right !

Our worlds are very small indeed !. It holds only one person, ourselves, surrounded by things whose sole function is to be manipulated for our amusement or profit. I hate to admit this but we enjoy the infliction of pain, enjoy establishing dominance over people whose feelings are nothing of importance, as if they never truly existed at all. Somehow all through life we never learn that there are other human beings in this world, people whose right to life and happiness is equal to our own. And so we spend our whole lives in our little small worlds oblivious to the fact that if we share it with someone, change ourselves just a little bit, our lives could really become wonderful!
